I'm Mohini. I'm a literacy specialist who makes an impact one child at a time.
I'm a literacy specialist with a Masters of Education in Elementary Teaching from the American University in Dubai and a Bachelors of Science in Economics from Santa Clara University. During my eight years of experience as an educator in Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, I've developed an effective approach to raising motivated readers and skilled writers. I develop and facilitate multi-sensory individualized curriculum.

We love our trips to the library and she is very excited to find a partner reading book to read together. I have noticed a confidence boost in Giuliana while reading especially out loud, she reads with more expression now and notices little details as we read. I love that she gets to hear me read and I get to hear read and we can discuss the book together. Her vocabulary has improved with fun and new exciting ways to learn the meaning of words. Acting out a vocabulary word has been her favorite now, your different strategies have made it fun for her to learn. We have both benefited from journal writing and thank you for the step by step resources you provided for her. I love the habit tracker you created for Giuliana. She enjoys knowing that she has accomplished a task and can mark it off. Your patience and thoughtfulness don't go unnoticed even though our sessions have ended. Having Mohini as an accountable reading coach was amazing! Mohini did not just give tasks, she had me be involved in the planning for what I wanted my daughter to grow in. We started off our four weeks of journey, in week one we both set up an attainable plan that included reading, writing and vocabulary activities. Moving forward we both then checked in to see what worked that week and what we could change or improve. Mohini provided many templates as a guide, she also provided videos with a walkthrough, which was very helpful for my daughter's writing. Most importantly Mohini provided that nurturing feeling for learning to read and write in.a more fun way rather than a dreadful thing for a child, and also more fun for me as a parent to be able to support my daughter in a more enjoyable way. I am glad to say that after four weeks, Mohini still wants to know how my daughter's journey in reading and writing is going. She provided us with a habit tracker for five weeks and also to still check in with us a month later :)

It's going to take a village to make up for the learning loss that happened when schools closed their doors during pandemic.
As we learned this past academic year, there is no quick fix to learning loss. It takes teamwork between parents, teachers and specialists like me to help children meet their academic and social-emotional learning goals!

Waiting, or giving children time will not teach them how to read or write better. The first step in planning an intervention is investigating what your child's holdbacks are. Then, it's time to build a systematic intervention made up of simple and structured evidenced based activities.
